Mariana Piedade was born and raised in Odeceixe, on the Costa Vicentina in the Algarve, and had a happy childhood by the sea and close to nature. People always told her she had an old soul. Unlike many fadistas, she did not grow up in fado houses or in the fado world: it was thanks to her mother that she always listened to Portuguese music and fado, and she sang with her friends, for fun.

Only when she came to Lisbon to study law did she go to a fado house for the first time. She began going regularly, meeting people and understanding everything fado was, a passion that grew without her noticing and is now part of her life. She used to say she would go back home once she finished her degree, and fado is one of the reasons she has not yet done so.

It took her a long time to lose her shyness about singing for an audience. Fado ao Carmo was the first fado house to welcome her with a regular night.

Tiago Correia is a fadista whose path has been shaped by a deep wish to learn from the masters who are his references, to understand the whys of fado and to know and sing its most traditional forms, while never giving up on building his own poetic and musical path as a lyricist and composer. Anyone who hears Tiago recognises an old soul in his voice and his singing, the fruit of his many references, such as Fernando Farinha and António Rocha, among others.

In 2021 he presented Rua da Rosa, a poem of his own set to music by Ângelo Freire. It was the first single from his debut record, E Decididamente, released in October 2021 and produced by Ângelo Freire.

Soraia Cardoso is a fadista from Coimbra who now lives in Lisbon. Fado has been part of her life from an early age and, over the years, has been a way of expressing herself, getting to know herself and connecting with others.

In 2018 she reached the final of The Voice Portugal, an experience that marked the start of a new phase in her artistic path. Since then she has sung in different fado houses and on different stages, always seeking to grow as a performer and to find her own voice within fado.

In 2025 she released her first album, Fado Sem Fim, with the support of the Museu do Fado and artistic mentoring from Aldina Duarte.

Luís Carlos, born in 2004, is a young fadista from Costa da Caparica who showed a deep connection to fado from an early age. His first contact with fado came at 7, largely through his uncle, who sparked this taste and passion in him.

His first performances were alongside the fadista Vítor Miranda, with whom he took his first steps on stage and began to shape his artistic identity.

Since then he has brought a young soul to fado without losing respect for its traditional roots.

Beatriz Villar

Fadista

Beatriz Villar is a singular voice in fado, where mystery and light meet. Her artistic identity lies in that duality between intensity and joy.

She began her career at 17 in Coimbra, where she explored the world of song and Coimbra fado. In 2022 she released Viragem, her first album, nominated for Best Fado Album at the PLAY Portuguese Music Awards. Throughout her career she has taken her music to stages in Portugal and abroad.

In 2024 she moved to Lisbon. If Coimbra is her root, Lisbon fado is a new territory of discovery, opening a new phase in her artistic expression. Villar is now preparing her new album, where she will assert a voice of her own between the tradition that shaped her and the new paths she has chosen to explore.

Ricardo Luiz

Ricardo Luiz has always found in fado a refuge, a way of living. He made his debut at a fado night aged 11, though his passion was born much earlier, in a home full of records and VHS tapes that soon made him fall in love with Amália’s voice and life.

His Portuguese television debut came in 2022 on SIC’s Cantor ou Impostor?, where he won the seventh episode and sang a duet with José Cid. That same year he made his debut at the Caixa Alfama Festival, where he was invited to record his first album with the Museu do Fado Discos label.

Also passionate about acting, he has worked with Filipe La Féria and other key names in Portuguese theatre.

In 2024 he released his first studio album, Memória(s), with lyrics and music by Tiago Torres da Silva, Flávio Gil, Francisco Guimarães, Filipe La Féria, Ângelo Freire and even verses written by Carminho.

With Amor Refém he began a new chapter. The first single from his next album, produced by João Só, was nominated for the 2026 International Portuguese Music Awards, which celebrate Portuguese music in the US. In this new project, Ricardo Luiz sets out from fado towards fusions with other genres and influences, keeping what defines him most: authenticity and emotional truth.

Tiago Valentim

With a degree in Musicology and a postgraduate qualification in Acoustics and Sound Studies from FCSH-UNL, and having completed the advanced Classical Guitar course (8th grade) at AML, Tiago Valentim is a guitarist, bassist, singer, teacher and composer. Classically trained and a fado viola player since 2002, he has worked in groups and as a soloist in very different musical fields, from medieval and Renaissance music to rock, by way of Portuguese traditional music, MPB, nuevo tango, Cape Verdean music and jazz.

He completed a course in Composition with Pedro Madaleno, took masterclasses with Dejan Ivanovic and António Gonçalves, and continued his classical guitar studies in Seville with Paco Seco. Among many artists, he has worked with Marco Rodrigues, Jorge Fernando, Viviane, José Emídio, Manuela Bravo, Corvos, the Orquestra Clássica do Algarve, Jonas, Jonas & Lander and Filipa Vieira, and was Antena 1 record of the week with Al Mouraria in 2011.

He produced and art-directed Afonso Silva’s latest single and the ‘Bate o pé ao Bullying’ movement, and was musical director of Al Mouraria’s last three albums. He took part as a composer in Anymamundy’s show ‘O Nascer da Terra’. He is currently musical director of the shows ‘Bate Fado’ by Jonas & Lander and ‘Maçã d’Adão’ by Jonas. The son of musicians, he is self-taught on electric guitar, 8-string guitar, Portuguese guitar, violin, trombone, double bass, electric bass, didgeridoo, drums and various percussion instruments.

Carmo Moniz Pereira

Granddaughter of “o Professor”, the composer of great fados Mário Moniz Pereira, Carmo has been fascinated by fado for as long as she can remember. She first stepped on stage at 14; at 17 she was singing weekly in two fado houses.

From 2007 she began taking fado to other countries, such as Romania, Turkey, Morocco, Cape Verde and Spain, and won the “Maria Severa” prize at the “Há Fado na Mouraria” competition.

In 2009 she joined the cast of “Clube de Fado”, alongside Cuca Roseta, Maria Ana Bobone and Rodrigo Costa Félix, and founded the “Fado Rezado” project with Francisco Salvação Barreto, Matilde Cid, Dinis Lavos and Manuel Gama: a fado mass one Sunday a month, then at the Church of Nossa Senhora da Encarnação in Lisbon.

In 2018 she took part in a Fado Rezado CD and in 2019 released her own album, “Entrega”. Today she sings at Fado ao Carmo and performs in other shows.

Miguel Dias, 22, began singing fado at the age of 8. Over 14 years he has performed on many stages and in many fado houses, keeping a strong bond with tradition.

His main reference is Fernando Maurício, and he seeks to preserve the essence and identity of fado in the way he sings.

Francisco Moreira, aged 26, is one of the essential names of the new generation of fadistas.

A singer, musician, lyricist and composer born and raised in Vila do Conde, he began his artistic path at the age of 8, taking part in the TVI programme “Uma Canção para Ti” in 2009. In 2012 he won RTP’s “Grande Prémio Nacional de Fado”, and in 2018 he took part in “The Voice Portugal” on the same channel.

In Portugal he has performed on some of the most important stages, such as Casa da Música, Coliseu do Porto and CCB, and abroad in Canada, Macau, China, Poland, Romania, Lithuania, Spain and France.

He has released 4 albums, one of them nominated for an IPMA in 2020.

Miguel Ramos is the finest example of what it means to sing fado and be a fadista. The son of guitarist Vitor Ramos, he was born into fado in Lisbon, among the night, the fadistas and the culture that shaped his soul.

In 1996 he entered the prestigious Grande Noite do Fado at the Coliseu dos Recreios and won with distinction. Since then he has been, for the whole fado community, one of the great references of this culture, singing in the most emblematic places alongside the greatest fadistas, such as Fernando Maurício, António Rocha, Deolinda Maria, Beatriz da Conceição, Flora Pereira and Maria da Nazaré, among others. There were many years of success in Portugal and abroad, singing on every continent, until he took up the art of playing the viola. He became one of the leading musicians in this language and spent many years playing with the most important artists, such as Carlos do Carmo, Camané, Rodrigo Costa Félix, Anita Guerreiro, António Rocha and Argentina Santos, among others, as well as in La Féria’s Amália project and in Tiago Torres da Silva’s musical Casa de Fados.

Today he is one of the most relevant male voices in fado. He is on international tour with the great director Pippo Delbono in the play Amore, and with his own solo concerts.

Filipa Biscaia

Filipa Biscaia showed an interest in music from an early age, but it was at university, when she joined the University of Coimbra women’s tuna, the FANS, that this talent grew. There she sang as a soloist, performing traditional Portuguese songs, mostly Coimbra fado. It was in academic circles that she gained visibility and, invited by Fado ao Centro, a cultural centre in Coimbra, she began singing fado professionally in 2015. In 2019 she moved to Lisbon and began performing live in several fado houses.

In 2022 she released her first album, Dois a Dois, whose single Rosa Secreta was nominated for the International Portuguese Music Awards. In 2023 she released a live recording of Maria Faia, which won Best Traditional Performance at the same awards.

With references such as José Afonso, Adriano Correia de Oliveira, Amália Rodrigues, Fernanda Maria and Maria José da Guia, in 2025 she released the first preview of a new album, Cravos Prá Festa, with lyrics by Capicua. It was followed by Ilusão, written by Amália Rodrigues, and Canção de Tantos Outros, co-composed by Filipa herself. In May 2026 she released her second record, Antes Que Os Rios Sequem.
